We teach the kids more or less the same as the adult students, we teach them all the basic moves but with very simple explanations, and as you can see from the picture what we teach them can still be used on people bigger & stronger than them.
The main thing is, as well as them learning a big move that can be very deadly, they have fun and what better way to have fun than being able to throw an adult.

The end result of this throw can be shown different to adults but will be taught to children once they reach 14yrs or if they show a certain understanding and adult aproach to there karate can be taught earlier than the above age.
Even adults are taught very simple moves till they have got the idea of were the body is going and were they will end up, once they have this we then show them how we can keep the attacker close and lock the arm or even smash the head to the floor.

This is a very simple grab of the arm and strike to the back of the opponents back.
Speed and timing is needed for this move to work.
You can see that it is pulling the opponent off balance and pulling against the elbow, your elbow strike to their back is there to help stun and add more pain to the opponent.
We use a lot of grab's and striking method's, again from the picture, we are taking the punching arm of the attacker and locking it with our arm around the attackers elbow, as we trap the arm we then strike, for safety reasons we touch the cheek especially when going at full speed, we will leave you with your imagination on were the strike should be, would be or can be.
Here you can see a very simple grab of the attackers leg, from here there are a few options you can go for such as a strike on to the knee cap or sweep the attackers leg away following them down and striking with a punch or a very plain simple manouver would be to just lift the attackers leg straight up making them fall backwards.
From this picture you can see that the student has swept the standing foot (from a front kick shown in picture above) and has followed the attacker to the ground, he has struck a very vunerable point on the attacker, he could have used his knealing knee to strike there and his fist could then have struck the head which would have been lifting back up with the pain the knee would have given the attacker (but for safety reasons in the DOJO we would not do this).
Sensei showing a throw which is used and going through it step by step with on looking students, again this looks hard and also back breaking but once again it is using the attackers body weight against him/her, as long as your hips are lower than the attackers and you lift from the hips the person can be thrown very easily. For getting someone in this position though needs practice and then once you have the technique right you can then speed the whole thing up and you may be suprised with how effective this move can be.
The attacker here has been thrown on to their back and Sensei has kept hold of the attackers hand and also placed a hand on to the attackers elbow. From here the sensei has full control of the attacker because any movement from the attacker Sensei could easily break the elbow or add more pressure to the wrist as it is in what we call the chicken neck position and the wrist can easily be broken too.
Students are also taught to protect themselves against weapons, here you can see the students are practicing against a stick, they are taught stick defences first and as their confidence grows and they grasp the movement required for the defence we then go on to a knife.
With knife defences they first start off with a rubber knife, then a wooden knife before going on to a sheethed knife and by the time they reach brown belt they are then put on to a live blade knife.
Tominagi, this is a very fast and very effective throw but also very dangerous to the person doing the throwing as it is a kamikazi move, the reason for it been a kamikazi move is this, if the attacker realises what you are about to do they can sink there body weight down on top of you then its a fight for you to get out of. There are many ways to do this throw and can take a while to master safely.
Black belts like to join in every now and then too, as we have to have a break from all the teaching and letting you students have all the fun.
